About skin checks
When you should have a skin check.
A skin cancer check is a specialist examination of a worrying mole, or of your skin generally, to look for signs of skin cancer using dermoscopy (magnified examination) for an accurate assessment.
Consider a check if a mole is new, changing, asymmetric, multi-coloured, larger than 6mm, itching or bleeding, the ABCDE warning signs. Also worth checking if you have many moles, a family history of melanoma, fair skin, or a lot of past sun exposure.
You don't need a GP referral, and you won't wait months. Our consultants examine the lesion (and your skin where appropriate), explain clearly what they find, and recommend the right next step whether that's reassurance, monitoring or removal with histology.

What happens during a skin cancer check?+

When should I get a mole checked?+
If a mole is new or changing, asymmetric, has an irregular border or two or more colours, is larger than 6mm, or itches or bleeds — the ABCDE signs — get it checked. Also worth it if you have many moles, fair skin, a family history of melanoma, or a lot of sun exposure.
How much does a skin cancer check cost?+
Prices range from £195 to £295 for single mole checks or full body assessments. Your price is confirmed in writing at your appointment for any removals and histology assessments.
What happens if something is found?+
If a lesion looks suspicious, your consultant will explain the options which typically would involve removal and histology to confirm the diagnosis. Where it's a skin cancer, you're on a surgeon-led pathway from the start.
Do I need a GP referral?+
No referral is needed. You can book a check directly at our London, Wilmslow or Liverpool clinics.
