What our patients say

ODHRÁN FRENCH6 months ago
Decided to choose here for Keloid removal per the reviews as NHS wait times are too long. I was not disappointed, staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were very professional and gave me practical advice and a snappy timeline to effectively get rid of my keloids. Called up on Tuesday at 11am and got an appointment at 5:45 for the same day. Highly recommend. -Odhràn

The Canova difference

Keloids are stubborn so we plan properly.

A keloid is more than a scar: it's overgrown scar tissue that can keep growing and tends to come back if treated carelessly. We assess yours and build a personalised plan because the right approach depends on the keloid's size, site and history.

Your consultation is with the surgeon overseeing your care. We're honest about what's realistic: keloids can be significantly improved and flattened, and we'll set clear expectations from the start.

Consultation

A specialist assessment

Your surgeon examines the keloid, reviews your history and explains what's realistic.

Your plan

A personalised plan

We agree the right combination of treatments and a clear treatment plan.

Treatment

First session

Many patients begin treatment at this stage, often with the first injection.

Ongoing care

Follow-up therapy

Follow-up therapies and scar care continue to keep the keloid controlled.

About keloid

What is a keloid and why do they form?

Keloids are raised scars that grow beyond the boundary of the original wound, caused by excessive collagen during healing and they can continue to grow over time.

They most often appear on the earlobes (after piercings), chest, shoulders, upper back, face and neck, and are more common with a genetic tendency, in darker skin tones, and between the ages of 10 and 30.

Keloids are harmless but can itch, feel tender, and cause real self-consciousness. Existing keloid tissue can be treated and improved but because keloids have a tendency to recur, the right plan usually combines treatments and ongoing care.

A realistic, honest plan

We set clear expectations. Keloids can be flattened and improved and we're upfront about recurrence.

Combination approach

Therapies are often combined for the best result, with aftercare such as compression.

Ongoing care

Follow-up therapies may continue over several months to keep the keloid managed.

How we treat it

Tailored keloid treatment.

Your surgeon recommends the right combination based on your keloid's size, site and history which would involve flattening it and reducing the chance of regrowth.

Method / 01 · gold standard

Keloid injection

Injections reduce inflammation and excess collagen to flatten the keloid, usually over a course of sessions and is often the mainstay of keloid treatment.

Sessions: a course · Goal: flatten & soften
Method / 02 · combination

Combination & surgical care

For suitable cases we combine therapies including compression and surgical correction where appropriate to improve the result and limit recurrence.

Approach: tailored · Aftercare: ongoing

Common questions

Keloid Treatment, answered.

Can a keloid be completely removed?+

Existing keloid tissue can be treated, flattened and significantly improved, but keloids have a tendency to reoccur so the goal is lasting control through a tailored, combined plan rather than a single 'cure'. We'll be honest about what's realistic for you.

How much does keloid treatment cost?+

Your price is confirmed in writing at your consultation and depends on the keloid's size and site and your treatment plan. Most keloids need a tailored course rather than a single session. The consultation fee is deductible from your treatment cost. We never upsell.

Does keloid treatment hurt?+

Injections and any procedure are done under local or topical anaesthetic and are well tolerated. Some treatments cause brief discomfort, which your team will talk you through.

How many sessions will I need?+

Most keloids need a course of treatment rather than a single session, often followed by aftercare over several months. Your surgeon will give you a clear plan at consultation.

Why not just cut the keloid out?+

Surgery alone often makes keloids worse, as it can trigger a larger one. That's why surgical correction, when used, is combined with other therapies and careful aftercare to limit recurrence.

Do I need a GP referral?+

No referral is needed. You can book directly at our London, Wilmslow or Liverpool clinics.

Will I have a scar?+

Like our inspiration Antonio Canova, we keep artistry and beauty in mind with our work and shall keep you informed each step of the way.
