Great service. Appointment was easy to arrange - saw the doctor and had the procedure to remove a cyst carried out immediately after. Can’t be faulted.

Fantastic service. Called to make a booking on the Friday, went in the next day for the procedure, consultation and cyst removal. The staff were great, friendly and clearly explained the process to me. Answered any questions I had and had a very calm, knowledgeable approach to the whole experience. Pricewise, I’ve struggled to find better. Very pleased, and would recommend. If you’re looking at getting anything removed for cosmetic reasons, this is the place to go

The Canova difference

Consultation and removal, by one surgeon.

Many clinics see you and then send you elsewhere to be treated. We run consultation and procedure on one pathway wherever it's clinically appropriate because our clinics are surgeon-staffed and our procedure rooms are on site.

If your surgeon recommends removal and you're happy to proceed, it's a complete excision of the whole sac, under local anaesthetic.

Consultation

A specialist assessment

Your surgeon examines the cyst, confirms the treatment plan and gives a fixed quotation.

Your decision

No pressure

Proceed, book for later or simply take a specialist opinion. It's your choice.

Treatment

About cyst

What we remove and why complete excision matters.

Skin cysts are common, benign sacs beneath the skin but they rarely disappear on their own and squeezing or partial removal usually just brings them back.

Epidermoid and sebaceous cysts are sacs filled with keratin, most common on the face, neck, torso and back; pilar cysts form on the scalp. They're usually harmless, but can grow, become inflamed or infected, or catch on clothing.

The key to a permanent result is removing the entire sac, not just draining the contents. Drainage leaves the sac wall behind and the cyst typically refills. Our surgeons excise the cyst whole wherever possible and close with fine sutures for the best cosmetic result.

Complete excision, sac included

The whole cyst is removed to minimise the chance of recurrence.

Plastic-surgeon technique

Incisions along natural skin lines, removal of the sac and closed with fine sutures for the most discreet removal.

Inflamed or infected cysts managed too

If your cyst is currently infected, your surgeon will advise the right sequence of treatment.

How we treat it

How we treat a cyst.

Your surgeon recommends the right approach based on the cyst's type, size, site and whether it's currently inflamed.

Method / 01 · gold standard

Complete surgical excision

The whole cyst, including its sac is removed under local anaesthetic and the wound closed with fine sutures. This is the definitive treatment that minimises recurrence.

Anaesthetic: local · Result: complete removal
Method / 02 · inflamed cysts

Incision & drainage first

If a cyst is acutely infected, drainage can give quick relief, with complete excision planned once it has settled for a better surgical and cosmetic result.

Anaesthetic: local · Then: excision later

Common questions

Cyst Removal, answered.

How quickly can my cyst be removed?+

Often in a single visit, where suitable. Our clinics are surgeon-staffed with procedure rooms on site, so where your surgeon assesses the cyst as suitable and you're happy to proceed, it can usually be removed in the same visit. Infected cysts are sometimes better treated in two steps.

How much does cyst removal cost?+

Your price is confirmed in writing at your consultation and depends on the size, site and type of cyst. Complete surgical excision of the sac is the definitive treatment, with incision and drainage available first for relief. The consultation fee is waived if you proceed, or later deducted.

Will the cyst come back?+

Recurrence is uncommon when the cyst is excised completely with its sac; our standard technique. Cysts that recur have usually been drained or only partially removed elsewhere.

Does it hurt?+

Only the initial local anaesthetic injection stings briefly. Once numb you'll feel pressure but no pain, and simple painkillers are usually enough afterwards.

What if my cyst is infected right now?+

Come in anyway. Infected cysts still need specialist assessment. Sometimes the right course is to settle the infection first and excise the cyst once it's calmed, for a better result.

Will I have a scar?+

Like our inspiration Antonio Canova, we keep artistry and beauty in mind with our work and shall keep you informed each step of the way.

Do I need a GP referral?+

No referral is needed. You can book directly at our London, Wilmslow or Liverpool clinics, typically within days.
