Our position

We remove lesions. Nothing else.

Many clinics dilute their expertise across fillers, lasers and cosmetic add-ons. We don't. Every consultation, every procedure and every histology report at Canova Medical concerns one discipline: the diagnosis and removal of skin lesions and skin cancer.

That focus is why GPs refer to us, why patients travel to us, and why we've grown from one clinic to four.

What we treat

One speciality, done right.

Every procedure is performed by a plastic surgeon. During your assessment we will recommend a treatment plan

Common questions

Your questions, answered.

Does the removal hurt?+
Like our inspiration Antonio Canova, we keep artistry and beauty in mind with our work and shall keep you informed each step of the way. The only discomfort is the initial local anaesthetic injection, which stings briefly. Once the area is numb you'll feel little to no pain. Simple painkillers are usually all that's needed afterwards.
Can my lesion be removed on the day of my consultation?+
Usually, yes. Our clinics are surgeon-staffed with procedure rooms on site, so where your surgeon assesses the lesion as suitable for removal under local anaesthetic and you're happy to proceed it can usually be done in the same visit. Occasionally a second appointment is better, for example if a cyst is currently infected; your surgeon will explain why.
How quickly can I be seen?+
Consultations are typically available within days across our London, Wilmslow and Liverpool clinics, with many procedures performed in a single visit where clinically appropriate without the NHS wait.
Will it come back?+
Recurrence is uncommon but your surgeon will discuss during your assessment
Is the tissue tested afterwards?+
Where there's any diagnostic uncertainty, the removed tissue is sent for histological analysis at an accredited laboratory and your results are explained to you personally. For straightforward, clinically typical lesions your surgeon will discuss whether histology is necessary.
How do I look after the area afterwards?+
Keep the dressing clean and dry for the first 24–48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise and swimming for a few days, and try not to disturb or pick at the area. Simple painkillers such as paracetamol are usually all that's needed. You'll be given written aftercare guidance for your specific procedure before you leave.
When can I get back to normal activities?+
Most people return to everyday activities straight away. We'd suggest avoiding strenuous exercise, swimming and saunas for the first few days while the area settles, and following any specific advice your surgeon gives for your procedure.
What should I watch for while it heals?+
A little redness and tenderness is normal at first. Please contact us if you notice increasing redness, swelling or bleeding that won't stop. In a medical emergency please call 111.
