Wrinkle Smoothing

Wrinkle smoothing injections, of which the best known is Botox/Vistabel®, work to reduce deep lines on your face.

They are a natural purified protein that acts by temporarily blocking the botnerve impulses towards the wrinkle-causing muscles, making them relaxed, giving the skin a smoother appearance.

Botox and Vistabel have an excellent safety profile, they have been used in a variety of therapeutic areas for over 10 years in tens of thousands of patients worldwide. Both have US FDA and European license approval.

The two products, contain exactly the same active ingredient and are supplied by the same company, Allergan, Inc.

Anti Wrinkle Treatments: The Consent

If you are happy to proceed using botox, you will be asked to sign a consent form to confirm that you have given permission for the procedure to go ahead and that you know all the possible side-effects and complications of the anti wrinkle treatment. You will be asked also to accept that photographs of your pre and post anti aging therapy will be taken.

About Botulinum Toxin Treatments

After an adequate free consultation in our clinics, with an exhaustive medical history, lines and wrinkle smoothing is done by injecting a very fine needle containing the slightest quantities of product into the areas concerned. It is important to notice that only the injected muscles will be affected. Appropriate injections will ensure you still have natural facial expression.

The injections are usually relatively painless or just slightly uncomfortable, no anaesthetic is required.

Generally, after the initial consultation, the procedure only takes about 15 minutes, there is no recovery time. If you have a job, you can easily have the procedure done in your lunch time and go straight back to work. Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after the treatment.

Side Effects and Complications

There is no permanent side effect or complication known with this kind of therapy for facial wrinkles. However, there are several temporary, mild side effects which can occur including:

• Bruising and mild swelling
• Pain at the site of injection
• Temporary double vision
• Eyebrow or eyelid droop, this is seen in 1-2% of patients. It usually only lasts 2-4 weeks and is mild
• Occasional numbness of the forehead lasting 2-3 weeks
• Transient headache has occurred.

In a very small number of individuals, the injection of Botulinum does not work as satisfactorily or for as long as usual.

After a Botox Treatment

After your treatment you will receive a few simple instructions to minimise the potential side effects and maximise the effectiveness of the procedure:

• Do NOT apply make-up for 4 hours
• Do NOT lie down, bend forward or do strenuous exercise for 4 hours
• Do NOT rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours
• Try to exercise your treated muscles for about 2 hours after treatment (e.g., frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting).

This will help to work the solution into your muscles, although this will not impact your procedure negatively if you forget to do it.

Results following anti wrinkle treatment will take from 2-14 days to become visible. The results will last between 3-4 months depending on how your muscles react to the effects of Botox, this is different from person to person. Subsequently procedure can last much longer.

Generally the anti-ageing treatment only takes about 15 minutes, there is no recovery time.
