What Is a Mole?

Moles are common skin growths made up of pigmented cells (melanocytes). Most are completely harmless and present from birth or develop over time through sun exposure. They can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and range in colour from pink to dark brown.

You may want mole removal if your mole:

  • Has changed in size, shape, or colour
  • Is itchy, bleeding, or crusting
  • Catches on clothing or jewellery
  • Affects your confidence

Important: While most moles are benign, any mole that changes rapidly should be assessed by a clinician before removal. At Canova Medical, every patient receives a thorough clinical assessment as a first step.

How Mole Removal Works at Canova Medical

Step 1 — Consultation Your doctor will examine the mole, discuss your concerns, and recommend the most appropriate removal method. If there are any concerns about the appearance of the mole, you’ll be advised accordingly before proceeding.

Step 2 — Treatment Depending on the mole’s size, depth, and location, removal is carried out using:

  • Treatments excision — the mole is cut out and the skin closed with fine sutures. Ideal for raised or deeper moles.
  • Shave excision — the mole is shaved flush with the skin surface. Suitable for superficial, raised moles.

A local anaesthetic is applied first, so the procedure is comfortable throughout.

Step 3 — Aftercare You’ll leave with clear written aftercare instructions and a follow-up plan. Most patients are back to their normal routine the same day.

Before & After Expectations

Before treatment: You’ll have a full clinical consultation. Avoid blood-thinning medications (where safe to do so) in the days before your appointment — your doctor will advise.

Immediately after: The area may be slightly red and tender. A small dressing will be applied.

Healing: Most wounds heal within 1–3 weeks. Some redness or a faint scar may be visible initially, which typically fades over several months.

Recovery & Aftercare

  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 48 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 1–2 weeks (for excision procedures)
  • Apply any prescribed ointment as directed
  • Protect the area from sun exposure during healing
  • Attend any follow-up appointments recommended by your doctor

Consultations are £95.

If you proceed with same-day treatment, you’ll only pay the removal price.

If you attend for a consultation only, the £95 paid fee will be deducted from the removal price at your next visit.

I have had treatment with Soprano laser hair removal, and I have to admit, it is fantastic! The pain is reduced a lot if I compare it with the Alexandria laser. Also, how they work with the laser makes the difference; Charlotte is super professional and friendly. I am very happy with the results and with the price. I recommend it to anyone that wants to do laser treatment at a good price with good professionals. Many thanks, Charlotte and Anna.

I’ve recently completed my laser hair removal treatment on my legs, carried out by the amazing Charlotte, and I could not be happier with my results. I was always hesitant as I’m a sunbed user and every other place you have to wait quite a few weeks before using a sunbed, however Canovas machine you only have to wait 24 hours! I also found the process to be completely painless.

My legs feel constantly smooth and I never think about shaving them. I’ve gone from shaving everyday to every few weeks and that was only after 4 sessions.

I am recommending all my friends to try it, you won’t regret it.

And a bonus is getting to have a chat with the lovely Charlotte who made the whole process even better!
