Are your man boobs bothering you?

You can read more about it here.
As men age, the hormone balance changes because less testosterone is produced. It’s usually these hormonal changes that lead to the development of ‘man boobs’, and it can be extremely embarrassing and frustrating. What’s more, because the changes are hormonal, the excess male breast tissue won’t go away with dieting and exercise. In some cases, the excess breast tissue isn’t just an appearance issue, but it can be painful too. One or both breasts can be sore or tender.
Male breast reduction surgery (known as ‘gynaecomastia’ or ‘gynecomastia’ surgery) is a good solution for removing excess fat – and restoring your confidence.
At Canova Medical, we’ll take time to get to know you, and make sure that there are no other likely causes of your man boobs
Male breast tissue can be alarming, however it is not usually related to breast cancer.
In most cases, man boobs have developed as a result of hormonal changes. But excess male breast tissue can sometimes be linked to:
- Medication side effects, such as drugs for ulcers and heart disease.
- Taking illegal drugs.
- Consuming too much alcohol.
- Other health problems, such as kidney failure, liver disease, or a genetic disorder.
- Lumps or infection in the testicles.
Because your Consultation at Canova Medical will be with a Surgeon, he will discuss your medical history in some detail to rule out these other causes. If the Surgeon has any doubts or reservations, he will tell you, as your health and wellbeing are our primary importance.
Please note that at other cosmetic surgery clinic consultations may be held with a Nurse or a Patient Coordinator – in other words, people who have not received adequate medical training to evaluate your overall health. For the sake of your health, we would strongly recommend that you insist on seeing a Surgeon.

What can I expect at the Consultation?
Your Surgeon will assess your overall physical health and any medical conditions will be discussed and evaluated, to ensure that you are a good candidate for men breast reduction surgery. The Surgeon will pay particular attention to the condition of your chest.
Who performs the male breast reduction surgery?
Mr Maurizio Persico (Consultant Plastic Surgeon) performs gynecomastia surgery at our Wilmslow clinic. You can read about Mr Persico here.
Where does the surgery take place?
Your Consultations will take place at our Cheshire clinic, where the ambience is elegant yet relaxed. For the maximum in discretion you will never see another patient.
The surgery itself will be carried out a local private hospital. You’ll be given full details at your Consultation.
How do I prepare for gynaecomastia surgery?
You will be fully informed about what you can eat and drink before the procedure, and any precautions regarding medications and smoking.
These are guidelines that you should follow to help ensure that your surgery will go smoothly and without any complications.
What happens during the male breast reduction procedure?
Your Surgeon will make a small incision around part of your nipple, so that he can perform liposuction to remove the excess fat. The incision is then closed up with sutures. The male breast reduction procedure usually takes from 1 to 2 hours.
What can I expect for the gynecomastia surgery recovery?
Gynecomastia surgery recovery is much like any other surgical procedure. You will require a chaperone to collect you from the hospital once you are discharged. You will be prescribed painkillers to help ease your discomfort.
Dissolvable stitches are used for closing the incisions. A light, absorbable dressing is placed on top, and should remain in place until your first post-operative appointment with the Nurse a week later.
Your chest will feel sore and tender afterwards, with some post-operative bruising and swelling. Your Surgeon will give you specific advice and instructions on gynecomastia surgery recovery at your Consultation.
How much scarring will there be?
The scarring will be minimal and barely noticeable once your scar has healed.
What if I have any other questions?
Please contact the friendly team at Canova Medical – we’d be delighted to help you and answer any questions you may have.
What’s the next step?
The next step to getting rid of embarrassing man boobs is to arrange a Consultation. This will last for one hour and will be with the Surgeon who’ll be performing your gynaecomastia surgery. He will take the time to get to know you and your desired outcomes; obtain your medical history; and make recommendations based on your specific needs. There is a one-off £120 Consultation fee for surgical treatments.
Why is there a Consultation fee?
It is normal for medical specialists to charge a fee for their time; those that do not charge a fee use the Consultation as a promotion. So when you have a Consultation at Canova Medical cosmetic surgery clinic in Wilmslow, Cheshire, you will receive our professional, medical opinion, as you would expect from a medical specialist.
The Consultation fee is a one-off charge: there are no further Consultation fees, neither for your follow-up review appointments, nor for any other treatments you may consider in future. Once you’ve seen us, you’ll be part of the Canova family.
100% Satisfaction Guarantee
When you pay for a Consultation, you want to make sure that you get value for money. And for us, that means that the Surgeon gives you detailed and personalised advice based on your own, unique needs. (Whereas at other Clinics, you may receive a sales pitch from a Patient Coordinator with no medical training.) At Canova Medical, many patients find the Consultation so in-depth that they take notes, as there’s so much good advice on offer.
However, you’ll receive a refund (without you needing to ask for it) if you are not a good candidate for cosmetic surgery. This way you can try Canova Medical risk-free to see if we’re right for you.
