Cosmetic Surgery: An Informal Chat with Mr Persico

The article about Mr Maurizio Persico, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, appeared in the press last month.

Over the past few months at Live Cheshire we have been hearing a lot about Cosmetic Surgery.
A recently opened clinic, Canova Medical in Wilmslow, Cheshire, is steadily growing and has now taken on board one of the leading plastic surgeons in the North West of England, Mr Maurizio Persico.

Caroline: Mr Persico, Thank you for taking the time to speak to Live Cheshire. You have been practicing plastic surgery for over 20 years and have worked with some of the major cosmetic companies in UK. Now you are joining Canova Medical – How did you reach that decision?

Mr Persico: I found in Canova Medical some aspects in common with my philosophy that I apply in my daily practice. They guarantee a special one to one aftercare to their patients by a Doctor/Surgeon – this is the key to a successful surgery for the patient, and more importantly to make them feel comfortable with the surgeon and the team. As Canova Medical is a small company, rapport is excellent, from initial consultation to post-operative care. We are able to listen to each patient and help him or her with their individual needs.

Caroline: Why do you think so many people undergo different plastic surgery treatments?

MP: Nowadays, there is an overwhelming pressure for people to look good. Our culture is more aware of personal appearance and wanting to look younger, therefore people are having treatments and surgery in an attempt to make them feel better about themselves. Sometimes this becomes a pitiable attempt at achieving what is permanently lost; on the other hand plastic surgery in the right cases can be instrumental in improving appearances as well as boosting confidence.

Caroline: You are a specialist in Breast Surgery, which includes different procedures to enlarge, reduce or uplift the breast. Which is the most requested procedure?

MP: Breast Augmentation is the most requested procedure today. Many people want enlargement after having children, losing weight or if they feel out of proportion and this surgery can change simple things, like buying clothes as well as improving self-esteem.

Caroline: These days many women are choosing to have breast surgery to look beautiful.  Are there any other popular procedures?

MP: There is no question that Facial Plastic Surgery is on the increase. Rhinoplasty is probably the most difficult plastic surgery procedure to perform, which makes it the most interesting and challenging for me. Forehead Rejuvenation is also helped by non-surgical treatments like Botox ®, which is by far the most popular as it is affordable with no downtime and patients love the results.

Caroline: Thanks for your time Mr Persico. Finally, what advice do you have for any of our readers who are contemplating plastic surgery? And how can they contact you?

MP: Grazie, it has been a pleasure for me. I would like to add that all patients are individuals and are treated as such; therefore their results will be individual, based on what the surgeon can achieve and what the patient requests.

In conclusion:

Look for your personal model of beauty and have realistic expectations of what can be achieved.

Have more than one consultation, preferably with a surgeon who is on the Specialist Register and when you make your decision, realise that plastic surgery is a process from pre-op to post-op and beyond and that your surgeon will be with you every step of the way.
